Day at the Races

Race horses
On Friday, our operations group had an outing to Arlington Park race track. I decided to bring along my camera and see what it could do.

Horses wearing superhero outfits
Horseflies?
Some call me... Tim

Yesterday I participated in a work-related icebreaker. The facilitator handed out slips of paper with animal names, in order to group people. My group was the horses group. Then they gave the ten people in each group a sheet of newspaper and said the newspaper was an island surrounded by shark-infested water. We had to get all of our group onto the island, so that no one was eaten by sharks. We took our island and turned it into an archipelago, so that each of us had our own little piece of newspaper to stand on.

WOW impressive pix! My camera doesn't like the jet set quite as well and prefers to photograph in the manner of the sloth... what kind of camera are you toting?

The first two pictures clearly demonstrate the fact that horses can in fact have all four hooves off the ground at the same time while running. If I remember correctly there was an ongoing debate concerning this prior to photography. Once again we have proof. Great photos!

And another thing...I noticed that the first photo, rendered in black and white, magically becomes a color photograph when I enlarge it by clicking on it! Wow! How cool is that!

It's a Pentax K10D, 10MP SLR. Those were all shot at 1/500s through through my (dad's) 70-210mm zoom lens, manually focused. They are also cropped quite a bit to get that "up close" feeling.
